Department Description

The DOCSIS CPE firmware development teams are responsible for the design and development of cable-based CPE devices, such as DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems, wireless gateways, and advanced video gateways. All DOCSIS products use embedded, real-time development techniques and tools. The current platforms are based on eCos and Linux. The department works closely with the hardware development teams.

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations

System Technician

Candidates will have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree or equivalent, preferably in engineering. Candidate should have conceptual knowledge in system level testing including debugging, collecting and analyzing call processing data logs. Candidate should have strong independent problem-solving skills.

Job responsibilities not limited to, but will include:
• Install and configure software on Motorola Solutions Two-Way Radio Communication System devices in a Test Lab environment
• Program and maintain Motorola radio units that will be used by the test team to validate the system infrastructure. (using Motorola programming tools)
• General lab maintenance tasks such as:
o pulling abandoned cables
o integration of new devices
o removal of old/unused equipment
o Collecting and processing damaged/failed equipment
o Arrange & organize the test lab and storage rooms

Work Hours:
• Typically, Monday thru Friday, 8AM thru 5PM (depending on project demands, alternate shifts or weekends could occasionally be required) this also assumes no paid lunch, 8 hours of work.

Experience Level - 7 - 10 Years Assist maintaining test stations and support 15 test engineers by making cables and installing equipment in racks. Make cable assemblies; wire and configure racks and test stations; maintain lab equipment; document lab layout and label cables. Provide maintenance for lab PCs; maintain lab inventory; order lab supplies; organize lab and keep it organized; preventive maintenance; headend alignment. Technical areas addressed in lab digital Cable systems; digital satellite settops; HD and SD video; cable modems and networks; fiber optic equipment. Necessary skills include self starter; organized; basic computer skills; network experience a plus.Conduct organizational studies and evaluations, design systems and procedures, conduct work simplifications and measurement studies, and prepare operations and procedures manuals to assist management in operating more efficiently and effectively.

The team is the primary point of contact to business partners for resolving UNIX related incidents, providing service restoration, troubleshooting system failures, and implementing UNIX hardware/software changes for the enterprise server environment remotely using Service Management Processes (SMP). The UNIX Server SDA team provides 7X24 coverage (3 shift environment) and partners will other technical areas to resolve issues as needed. The team works with UNIX Hands-On Server team and/or appropriate vendors to resolve incidents; maintains server availability and stability; and provides input for improvement of team workflow. Other responsibilities may include serving as a technical subject matter expert on various projects; reviewing and creating knowledge items; and reviewing and creating team procedures and documentation. Work for this skill is received via project requests, phone calls, and through SMP using Service Desk (incident, service calls, and work orders).
